Data Discovery

Discovering Data in Promethium

Promethium makes it easy for users to find and understand enterprise data — whether they’re browsing structured metadata or starting with a natural language question.

Data discovery is a core part of the Promethium experience, helping users quickly identify the tables, fields, and Datamaps they need to answer business questions or build new Data Answers.

Promethium supports two primary discovery methods:

1. Data Explorer (Structured Navigation)

The Data Explorer provides an interactive, filterable interface for navigating all the data connected to Promethium. It’s designed for users who prefer to explore datasets visually or who already have a rough idea of where to look.

With the Data Explorer, users can:

  • Browse data by source, schema, or Object Name
  • Use filters like object types, Endorsements, and Domains
  • View metadata for tables, views, Datamaps, and columns
  • Preview sample data

2. Mantra Discovery Agent (Natural Language)

For users who prefer to start with a business question, the Mantra Discovery Agent offers a conversational way to find relevant data.

Powered by Promethium’s 360° Context Hub, the Discovery Agent can:

  • Interpret natural language queries (e.g., "show me options for product categories")
  • Suggest relevant tables, Datamaps, or columns
  • Explain the meaning and context of datasets
  • Recommend follow-up questions or next steps
  • Help users avoid duplicates or find curated assets

This allows even non-technical users to find high-quality, relevant data without knowing SQL or table names.

Why Discovery Matters

Data discovery helps teams:

  • Reuse existing trusted datasets
  • Reduce time spent searching or duplicating work
  • Increase data literacy across the organization
  • Empower analysts and business users to self-serve

By supporting both structured and conversational discovery, Promethium ensures users can find the data they need — no matter how they prefer to work.
