Data Sources
Promethium's Universal Query Engine accesses data in your existing data platforms. Connecting your data platforms to the Fabric enables metadata exploration, and distributed querying across all your data platforms—from cloud datalakes to on-prem databases and everything in between.
Before Promethium can help your teams discover, access, and query data, you’ll need to connect your data sources. This connection process allows Promethium to:
- Crawl technical metadata (schemas, tables, columns, types, etc.)
- Build a unified view of your data landscape
- Enable heterogeneous SQL queries across platforms
- Power downstream capabilities like Datamaps, business context matching, and pipeline orchestration
What’s Required
To connect a data source, Promethium needs read-only access at a minimum. This access enables metadata crawling and safe query execution without altering your source systems.
The type of credentials required are dictated by the data platform that you are connecting to.
For private data sources that are only accessible within your enterprise network please ensure there is a network pathway to the private endpoints of the Promethium Intelligent Edge.
General Connection Workflow
- Navigate to the Data Sources Page in the Promethium UI
- Select your data source from the connector library
- Enter connection details including authentication
- Test the connection to ensure Promethium can access the metadata
- Save and verify — once connected, Promethium will begin crawling metadata automatically (or on demand, based on your settings)
After connection, your metadata will begin appearing in Promethium’s Data Explorer, enabling you and Mantra to begin to explore and query your data and build Datamaps.
